Parent Involvement

Haskell provides many ways for all family members to volunteer and get involved with your child’s education and school experience. Check out the resources below!

Parent Center Volunteers & Workshops

The Haskell Parent Center is a welcoming place for parents and volunteers. Parents can attend workshops and seminars throughout the year, find out about school and community resources, and get support on various school-related issues.

Check with your child's teacher if you are interested in being a room parent to find out how you can help during online learning!

Many volunteer opportunities are on hold for 2020-2021, but there may be some ways you can lend a helping hand. Typical volunteer opportunities include helping in the classroom at the teacher’s discretion, helping in the Parent Center, serving at the morning drop-off valet, helping at the Book Fair, and more!

If you would you like to volunteer at Haskell, get started by registering through the LAUSD Volunteer Portal. For more information, contact Parent Center Director  Ana Garcia.

Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)

The Haskell PTA is a group of caring and committed volunteers – parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers, and community leaders – who work together to help our school, teachers, and students thrive. The PTA develops and delivers top quality programs and services in support of all Haskell children and families now and in the future. PTA membership is open to all. Meetings are held regularly throughout the school year.

Go to the PTA Webpage for more information.

School Site Council (SSC)

The Haskell SSC is a governing committee of the principal, teacher representatives, classified staff representative, and parents who make important decisions affecting the school’s instructional programs and use of Title I funds. The SSC develops and approve the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), which identifies and implements curriculum and instructional practices to support academic achievement goals, and develops an annual budget for the use of state school improvement funds.

Parent representatives are volunteers and must be elected to the council in the fall. All interested parents are welcome to attend SSC meetings. For more information on joining or attending, contact Ryan Shervington  in the main office.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

ELAC is a parent group that advises the principal and school staff of recommended programs and services for English learners, and the School Site Council (SSC) on the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement. ELAC also advises the school on other tasks related to needs assessments and programs for English learners.

ELAC membership must include parents of English learners but may also include other duly elected family and community members. The percentage of parents of English learners who are elected must be at least equal to the percentage of English learners at the school site. Parents volunteering to serve on ELAC must be elected each year through a voting process held in the fall. For more information, contact  Ryan Shervington in the main office.
